In President Obama's State of the Union Address this year he really spoke about and showed his support for innovation in technology. The President spoke about improving high speed rail and wireless connections. He said "the Internet is a revolution for our digital culture as well as for business. Who'd have thought that the creation of the World Wide Web would lead to the creation of other small businesses that would later go on to become well-known entrepreneurial giants like Amazon, Facebook, YouTube and so forth."
I believe the President is hitting the target when he talks about improving and investing in technology. The internet is the wave of right now and I am amazed ant how it has evolved in my lifetime. I’m 22 and remember the old Macintosh computers. LOL Floppy disk are almost unheard of now. Cell phones are as small as a deck of cards and can do just about anything you want them to. Being a leader in this world means being a leader in technology innovation. I’m excited to see what is next.
A BROTHA SPEAKS!!!
Facebook holds the reign as the world leading social networking site. No one ever thought that this site would become what it is today or remain as relevant. I believe its success comes from its simplicity and ability to serve a wide demographic. EVERYBODY has a Facebook, from my 50 plus old aunt, to my 4th grade students. LOL. Facebook has become a household name and nobody (except twitter) has been able to rival or compete with its success.
So when I read and heard about Google creating a new social networking site as a part of their Google search engine, I immediately though that this could be an "EPIC FAIL." trying to mirror or compete with Facebook is pointless. Facebook has the social networking game locked down. Instead of Google trying mimicking Facebook, they should come up with their own new social innovation like Twitter did. Everybody can’t be Facebook. Just be content with being Google! Oprah once said that you don’t better yourself by trying to do what others do. Instead you better what it is you do!
A BROTHA SPEAKS!!!
When I first heard about the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford’s in Arizona I was completely shocked. I was shocked that the negative rhetoric of this country had come to such violence. I briefly read the breaking news updates on my cell phone and couldn't help but immediately place the blame on the Republican Tea Party.
I must say that I briefly forgot about the incident, but was quickly reminded of what had happened that day when I got home that evening. The Internet was bussing, news outlets were on top of the story and breaking news updates were coming in as fast as possible. So I turned to my favorite news channel, CNN, to see what Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, and their team of experts would have to say about the incident. CNN with their advance technology had pictures, interactive maps, tweets and facebook massages from well wishers expressing their outrage and condolences.
They were also playing clips of the Presidents news conference. The President started by saying "This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford's. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Gifford's is gravely wounded. We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Gifford's, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.” He categorized Rep. Gifford's as a friend and extraordinary public servant. I didn't know much about her before this incident but I did know that she didn’t deserve to be shot for her beliefs and hard work.
I believe this was a tragic incident that only shows how hateful some people can be. I reminded me of how I had learned about the assassination of other great Presidents and civil rights leaders. I had hoped that same hatred didn't still exist, but unfortunately this shooting raised doubt about the progress we have made as a country.
